Welcome to the Pinewood Derby 2025

The Bledsoe Creek District invites you to participate in this year’s Pinewood Derby! Remember, the process of building your car is as important as the race itself. Each Scout may enter one car, and participation requires adherence to the official rules and the code of conduct outlined below.

Participation Guidelines

  • Each Cub Scout Pack may enter their top three cars for speed and their top three cars for show.
  • A car can only be entered for speed or show, not both.
  • The Scout must be present at the event to compete.
  • The car must be built this year by the Scout with the help of their parent or adult partner.

Car Specifications

Before registering, ensure your car meets these technical requirements:

  • Weight: Maximum 5 ounces (measured by the official scale).
  • Dimensions:
    • Length: Maximum 7 inches.
    • Width: Maximum 2 ¾ inches.
    • Clearance between wheels: Minimum 1 ¾ inches.
    • Clearance underneath: Minimum ⅜ inch.
  • Materials: Must use the wooden block, wheels, and axles provided in the BSA Pinewood Derby Official Car Kit.
  • Prohibited modifications:
    • No springs, wheel bearings, washers, or bushings.
    • No lubricating oil (use powdered graphite or silicone for lubrication).
  • Accessories and decorations must not be loose or interfere with other cars or the track.

Inspection and Repairs

  • All cars must pass an inspection by the official inspection committee before racing.
  • If a car is damaged or loses a wheel, Scouts will have 5 minutes to make repairs. The car will then be reinspected.
  • Cars that interfere with others during a race may be subject to re-racing or disqualification.

Good Sportsmanship Policy

All participants, including spectators, are expected to behave respectfully. Race officials may ask individuals not following this policy to leave.
